Another snowy commute. I do not mean that to sound as though I am complaining, it has only been our third measurable snowfall in Chicago this year…and by far the prettiest.

It has been a strange winter here in Chicago. After so-called experts predicted Chicago would have one of the worst winters on record, the mercury has barely dropped below freezing as we pass mid-January, and we’ve received exactly one measurable snowfall…of about four inches. That snowfall promptly melted, as temperatures then climbed into the forties, and we received two-days worth of rain immediately afterward. Today, we are receiving our second measurable snowfall of the season, of which we are projected to get about six-inches.
Almost a year after Instagram was released, I decided to download the app and give it a try. After posting a few photos, I think I get it.
Apologies to Jack Johnson for the post title, but it seemed appropriate. I left work earlier today to this beautiful blue sky, dotted with clouds and crisscrossed by airplane contrails.

I was hoping the rain that fell during the afternoon would still be evident as I was leaving work. To my delight, as I reached the MINI, I found the rain water nicely beaded on the roof of my MINI Cooper S, and some rather nice light to work with. I ended up shooting the photo below, which is really one of my all-time favorite iPhone photos…

We were doing some work around the house, when I found our Beagle, Layla, laying on the back of the couch and looking out the window…longing for summer and to be outdoors, no doubt.
This photograph is a case in point that, if you have great light, and you have something of an idea on how to use that light, it tends not to matter what type of camera you are using…
