Almost a year after Instagram was released, I decided to download the app and give it a try. Instagram is just a fun way to share photos. With Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Tumblr, etc. integration, they have made it brain-dead simple to share photos across these platforms. I am not the biggest fan of the retro filters that seem to evoke the Kodak Instamatic and Polaroid cameras, but I do like a few of them. In the right instance, Instagram’s filters can definitely give a photo an added retro-something.

Race Horses

I shot this photo over a year ago at Arlington Park Race Track, and just revisited it the other day. Initially, I did nothing with this shot, as I was underwhelmed by it and just did not see much of anything in the shot. Fast forward about a year, and as I was looking through old photos, I saw a different crop, and thought that passing the RAW image through Photomatix to create an HDR image could be something.

Beagle, Layla

Our Beagle, Layla

We were doing some work around the house, when I found our Beagle, Layla, laying on the back of the couch and looking out the window…no doubt, longing for summer and to be outdoors.

This photograph is a case in point that, if you have great light, and you have something of an idea on how to use that light, it tends not to matter what type of camera you are using.

Tiffany & Jason Engagement

A few weeks ago, my sister-in-law, Tiffany, and her fianceé, Jason, asked me to be their wedding photographer. Happily, I accepted the job of shooting my first wedding, and we decided to do an engagement session at Grosse Point Lighthouse in Evanston, Illinois.
